 Safety with a system

Simple, plug-in installation with Ex-protected plug connections, type eXLink
The connection and disconnection of electrical apparatus in a potentially explosive environment without the use of tools, without isolation from the mains or disconnection of terminals, and without hot work permit represents a decisive step into a future in which the installation, servicing and repair of electrical apparatus can be carried out easily, safely and economically. Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH has optimised its eXLink connector series for hazardous areas. The improvements prevents operating errors and makes the handling more easy, even under extreme conditions. The connectors, plugs, receptacles, inlets and elbows of the series eXLink are designed in the type of protection Ex-d. They are extremely small and can be used in the instrumentation technology for all active devices and sensors. In addition to this, it is also possible to connect other electrical apparatus with a current consumption up to 10 A. The contact pins feature the time-tested CEAG contacts made of specially treated copper-beryllium tape. They are punched out like a jalousie and have a large number of contact points that guarantee a continuous and faultless electrical contact. A coupling ring integrated in the plug enclosure guarantees the mechanical strength of the connection. Depending upon the operational area conditions and installation practice used on site, the user can choose between made of cold impact resistant moulded plastic, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel versions. An Ex-d compartment round the connection pins ensures a reliable explosion protection to meet Zones 1,2, 21 and 22 requirements during the connection or disconnection of the plug connections. Similar to the CEE system, the plugs and sockets can be coded for non-interchangeability and specific applications. In accordance with the requirements for an up-to-date, safe and timesaving installation, none of the components has screws. The available connection methods include crimping or cage-type spring-tension terminals.

 LED Escape Sign Luminaire EXIT

Showing the way in hazardous areas
Whenever the operational safety of explosion-protected safety and escape sign luminaire is involved, there is no room for compromises, as only fully functional luminaires can safe human lives. The new explosion-protected LED escape sign luminaire from Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH not only fulfils the extremely high requirements for explosion protection, but also the legal requirements for emergency and safety lighting installations. The new EXIT luminaire is capable of safely showing the right way at all times, even in complex and often badly laid out industrial installations with potentially explosive atmospheres. The white LED technology used for the illuminants guarantees maintenance-free operation with no replacing of illuminants throughout the complete service life of the luminaire. This reduces the operating costs and increases the operational safety enormously, particularly in locations that are not easily accessible. The supply circuits of the LEDs are intrinsically safe. Due to the wide input voltage range from 110 V to 277 V AC and 110V to 250 V DC, this luminaire can be used internationally. The luminaire has a visibility range of 25m and is available with a wide variety of pictograms. On account of the robust all-plastic enclosure made of polycarbonate in the high degree of protection IP 66, the EXIT luminaire can be installed almost anywhere, both indoors and out. The luminaire is built in accordance with the ATEX directive and can, therefore, be used in hazardous areas in Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
For various applications, the luminaire is available in three different types:
As mains luminaire, e. g. for especially safeguarded industrial networks in production plants. As an emergency lighting luminaire with self-contained battery system and automatic function monitoring and operating time test. With a rated emergency lighting cycle of three hours it is especially suited for use in peripheral installations and smaller applications. As individually monitored safety and escape sign luminaire with optional CG-S module, the operation of the EXIT is also particularly simple. The luminaire is supplied, battery-boosted, with power from a ZB-S emergency lighting installation from CEAG. No additional installations are required. This monitors all the functions of the luminaire and checks the feed line for short or open circuits. Any incidents are shown clearly on the display. Thus, even in case of highly complex installations, troubleshooting and the elimination of faults is not a problem. Another considerable advantage: the daily function test, that is laid down by law, is carried out auto-matically by the central control unit. This saves no end of time and money.

 With built-in safety

Ex-protected, recessed ceiling light fittings, type eLLB 20, specially for clean room areas
Regardless of whether for clean room areas in the pharmaceutical or chemical industries, in paint rooms or spray booths, the new series of CEAG recessed ceiling light fittings eLLB 20
from Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH always provides optimum lighting easy to clean and maintain and, of course, explosion-protected. Approved for Zones 1, 21, 2 and 22, these light fittings for bi-pin fluorescent lamps fulfil the requirements of the ATEX directive 94/9/EC and, due to the wide input voltage range of the electronic ballast, they can be used all over the world.
The luminaires are available in two lamp design for 18 W, 36 W and 58 W bi-pin lamps and in four lamp design for 18 W and 36 W bi-pin lamps. The high degree of protection IP 66 also allows the use of the light fitting of the series eLLB 20
in particularly severe ambient conditions. This is due to the robust enclosure made of painted sheet steel or stainless steel and the hinged, rimless, light-transmitting safety glass. Special fixing lugs for flush ceiling mounting, which is of particular importance in clean rooms, ensure easy installation. With the generously dimensioned wiring compartment and the stan-dard, double-ended through-wiring installation costs can be greatly reduced. The light switch, that is designed as a compulsory isolator switch according to EN 60947-1, ensures that the light fitting cannot be switched on when it is open. This means that replacing the bi-pin fluo-rescent lamps in the hazardous area is not a problem.
The standard, 2-channel electronic ballast used for this light fitting series is a particularly ad-vantageous safety feature, if one lamp fails, the other lamp continues to operate independ-ently. An optional CG module allows the light fitting to be used as an emergency light fitting when connect to a CEAG emergency lighting system, with monitoring function of each individ-ual light fitting.
The ellB 20 is also available as emergency light fitting type NIB with self-contained battery system in two and four lamp design with 18 W or 36 W bi-pin lamps with an emergency light-ing cycle of 1.5 and 3 hours.

 Double safety on all roads

Explosion-protected portable searchlight SEB 8 ADR in accordance with StVZO and EC-Directive ADR for the transport of hazardous goods by road
Warning lights for the transport of hazardous goods by road are subjected to a double quality requirement: on the one hand they must fulfil the requirements of the Road Traffic Regulations. On the other hand, if combustible or explosive materials are being transported and if both the functions of a warning light and searchlight are combined in one unit, they must also be in an explosion-protected design. Until now, the new SEB 8 ADR from Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH is the only light of its kind that has been certified by the Federal Motor Vehicle Department and issued with an EC-Type Examination Certificate to ATEX for hazardous areas in Zones 1 and 2 in the temperature class T4. Thus, this light can be used as both an explosion-protected port-able searchlight for vehicle inspections and as a warning light in accordance with the EC Direc-tive ADR. This is made possible by a special orange lens that, when fitted to the portable searchlight, switches off the normal function of the light and automatically switches on the horizontal, flashing-light mode. It goes without saying that the SEB 8 ADR has all the advantages of a portable CEAG light. Even after being in operation for four hours, the luminous intensity of this extremely robust and powerful portable searchlight is still more than 15,000 cd. This is due to the powerful main lamp, a 5.5 W halogen lamp, and the maintenance-free 4.8 V/7 Ah NC-accumulator. Indication of the capacity and residual duty cycle during charging and operation ensures its safe use. Also, if the filament of the main lamp burns through or the duty cycle comes to an end, the light switches over automatically to the secondary lamp to avoid a total blackout. This means that there is always enough time to safely leave the danger zone. The head of the searchlight can be tilted as required, allowing the light to be directed exactly where it is needed and, when the clip-on, transparent filter is fitted, the SEB 8 ADR can be transformed into an Ex-working light with an even light distribution for the illumination of large areas. The LG 443 (230 V AC) charger or the 90 motor vehicle charger for connection to the 10-33 V DC supply of the vehicle can be used for recharging the SEB 8 ADR. This means that the light can be charged ready for use for the maximum duty cycle at all times. The SEB 8 ADR does, of course, have an integrated emergency lighting mode: when operated in a charged state (without the orange clip-on lens), depending upon the switch position, the emergency light is switched on automatically in the event of a power failure.

Probably the lightest floodlight in the world:

The Ex-protected floodlight FZD EN in modular design for high- pressure lamps makes mounting and maintenance more easy
A lot of light with little electrical power nowadays the efficient illumination of large industrial installations without light fittings with high-pressure discharge lamps is unthinkable.
The major disadvantage of explosion protected high pressure light fittings is the construction of their housings which are often very heavy as well as bulky. This involves special require-ments to fix and mount the apparatus. The explosion protected floodlight FZD 04 for 250/400 W high pressure sodium or metal halide lamps from Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH offers a sophisticated solution for this problem. With its modular design, this powerful floodlight can be mounted by only one person without any help of any lifting tools. The 2 kg lightweight main housing is fixed by 4 screws at its normal mounting point however high. The heavy housing for the electronic ballast is mounted within easy reach at low level and connected by cable to the main housing. Before commissioning, the lamp module is simply plugged in and secured into the main housing ready! This saves an enormous amount of time cost and effort for the mounting.
Moreover, this extremely robust light fitting can be put to full use under the most adverse conditions. The floodlight in modular design is approved for use in hazardous areas Zones 1, 21, 2 and 22. It features an Ex-e enclosure for the electric components. The Ex-d lamp cas-sette is simply plugged onto the main Ex-e enclosure which can be mounted or replaceable without the use of special tools, only an Allen key is required to secure against loosening.. It goes without saying that the ballast enclosure in GRP or stainless steel, the light metal main light fitting enclosure and the lamp cassette of pressure-cast aluminium with safety-glass lens, are designed in the high degree of protection IP 66. Replacing lamps or cleaning the lamp module in snow and ice down to 55°C is not a problem with this floodlight. Due to the modu-lar design, the Ex-d lamp module can easily be removed from the light fitting main enclosure and serviced in the maintenance workshop. When the lamp module is removed, an integrated switch automatically effects the all-pole disconnection of the lamp contacts.
Reduction of the amount of maintenance, and, increase of safety is the result. As things are always changing, the swivel reflector optional wide or narrow-angle beam allows the light to be directed where it is required even after installation and with no additional installation work.
